A Bird in the Hand
—Chloe Weng

Colored pencil, 14 x 22 inches
Artist's Note:
Heritage lies in the worn embroidered scarf around your shoulders, in your old clothes and your jewelry and every vein and pockmark that maps your skin. As the saying goes, a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush: the care that is donned and tangible is worth being safekept and labeled as tradition. Through my rendition of an old woman looking after a bird, I hope I have captured this same sentiment of nurturing love.
